Improving engagement with feedback through Google Drive and screencasts
This session may be of interest to educators in higher education settings, education leaders and education researchers, and those who teach speakers of other languages in an English medium of instruction environment (EMI) at both the high school and university levels.

The presentation illustrates how Google Docs, Drive and screencasting technologies can be used to help students to use and engage with feedback more effectively. The presentation will be based on research evidence from both King’s College London and more recent academic writing classes at Seoul National University, which shows that students are much more likely to engage with feedback if technology is used to create a socio-constructivist and sociocultural learning environment, and that active engagement with feedback requires students to go through several feedback engagement processes. These processes: Understanding the feedback landscape, Self-assessment goal setting and regulation, and Motivation affect and receptivity processes, constitute the original USM model of feedback engagement.

The session will illustrate how Google Drive and screencasts can be used to deploy the model, encourage active feedback engagement, streamline the feedback and assessment processes and vastly improve the student learning experience. Attendees will thus gain a sense of both how the model works, why it works, and how the model can be deployed in a variety of contexts.

Google Expeditions - explore the world in virtual reality!
Google Expeditions is Google's virtual reality platform for the classroom. With a basic smartphone and a 'Google Cardboard' students (and teachers) can be spirited away from the classroom to a world underwater, or see CERN's hadron collider, or visit historic buildings in England, or be transported to a royal project in Thailand....the choices are endless.

In this session, I will introduce you to Expeditions and how to get setup. Together we will experience how transformative VR can be and we will also look at how we can use Expeditions to enhance the learning experience.

Please note, it is a requirement that attendees have a fairly recent smartphone (all iPhones and most modern Android phones)  to participate in this session. There are a limited number of Cardboards available so this will be on a first come basis - although people can pair up.
